The École is an independent, French-American bilingual school serving an international community of Maternelle-to-Middle School students in New York City’s Flatiron District in Manhattan. The school offers a bilingual academic program and has a student body of more than 300 students from Pre-Nursery through 8th Grade (ages 2-14).

We are looking for candidates for the position of Part-Time American Elementary Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.

Responsibilities include collaborating with an English grade level partner to plan and teach lessons two to three days a week in language arts, social studies, math, and science in English, as well as working closely with a French counterpart to harmonize the French and English curricula and co-teach bilingual lessons.

Teacher Responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach lessons in English language arts, math, science, and social studies to elementary students two-three days a week. 
  • Cultivate a warm, supportive, organized, well-structured classroom environment that nurtures students to achieve their full potential
  • Employ effective, developmentally appropriate classroom management techniques to establish a productive working environment where students acquire individual skills and language while learning to participate actively and appropriately as part of a group
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a diverse group of multilingual students
  • Amend and develop curricula as necessary with the support of an English grade level partner
  • Develop and execute developmentally appropriate assessments, both quantitative and qualitative, to monitor and report student progress
  • Develop and maintain a strong home-school partnership by engaging in open and collaborative communication with parents and families and by encouraging family involvement in their child’s learning
  • Other duties may include recess/lunch supervision, and study hall depending on the candidate’s availability.

Requirements:

  • Teaching certificate and/or advanced degree.
  • At least two years of recent experience teaching elementary school
  • An innovative and engaging approach to teaching, strong collaborative skills, and a passion for teaching children.

Preferred

  • Experience in bilingual/dual language and international, independent education is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with the Reading and Writing Workshop model, Seesaw, Google Workspace
  • Knowledge of child development principles and developmentally appropriate educational practices.
  • An enthusiastic personality that will engage elementary students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with adults and children.

The position is part-time and involves teaching two-three days a week. The salary range is $26,000-$37,500 depending on education and experience, as well as benefits. The position starts August 21, 2023.

2023-2024 Accounting and Payroll Manager

The École is an independent, French-American bilingual school serving an international community of Maternelle-to-Middle School students in New York City’s Flatiron District. The school offers an academic, bilingual program and has a student body of more than 300 students from Pre-Nursery through 8th Grade (ages 2-14).

We are currently recruiting an Accounting and Payroll manager to oversee financial management, control, and reporting for the school.

POSITION SUMMARY

The role of the Accounting & Payroll Manager is key to achieving improved performance and providing financial information to support the head of school and executive team in making informed business decisions. The manager will also be responsible for coordinating payroll for all staff - ensuring that all operational functions run smoothly and efficiently - and automating every possible process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Planning, Control, and Management Reporting

  • Ensure high-quality financial services which are prompt, accurate, and complete and offer to the Head of School and the Executive team the information and recommendations needed to successfully manage the school business
  • Advise and implement new financial initiatives and standards, as required, and keep up to date with financial matters within the independent education fields
  • Maintain the school’s accounting records accurately and in accordance with agreed timescales and procedures with the help of an external accountant
  • Generate key financial statements: income statement, cash flow statement, balance sheet, etc. 
  • Prepare the annual budget in cooperation with the head of school and the executive team
  • Participate in evaluating the different benefits plans and estimate future costs accordingly with the health insurance broker and HR & administrative specialist
  • Create reports, prepare and animate budget meetings to review actuals and forecasts, and advise on current and future financial issues or projects
  • Monitor performance and report budget progress as required to the head of school and budget holders, ensure monthly purchases are in accordance with the approved budget
  • Control treasury, secure the school’s cash, and minimize banking and interest charges

Invoicing and Billing

  • Produce invoices for deposit, tuition, and fees, for enrollment and re-enrollment:
      • Liaise with the Financial Assistance Committee and with the French Consulate for French Bourses (scholarships) in order to ensure financial assistance awarded to families is taken into account
      • Manage Global Tuitions and liaise with the After-School team and the lunch and uniform providers to ensure accurate credit is applied for these families
  • Ensure receipt of payment of deposit and tuition in due time, depending on the payment schedule selected (one, two, or monthly installments), and manage reconciliation in the different systems
  • Communicate with parents and their employers, answer questions, and send reminders for payment, in a courteous and factual manner
  • Keep track of late payments and share the payment status of families with the head of school and executive team in a specific report
  • Support the administration team as needed with invoicing and billing, reconciliation, refunds, and reimbursements for applications submitted for After-School, camps, field trips, overnight trips, and more…

Payroll

  • Ensure the accurate preparation and timely payment of all salaries
  • Manage 401k contributions and any other plans, including French teachers' retirement plans
  • Liaise with the HR & administrative specialist to receive accurate tracking of days off, sick days, and hourly employees' timesheets and process them within the payroll

Operational

  • Prepare and ensure all payments are on due time, and manage records
  • Conduct and validate monthly bank and control account reconciliations, including petty cash
  • Complete all school returns as required with the help of an external accountant
  • Keep the accounting and reporting systems under constant review, including the software, ensuring that they are effective and efficient and answer all the school's needs
  • Lead the automatization of every possible process, using new software if needed, in order to  save time and increase reliability
  • In case of an audit prepare the school accounts and manage the process ensuring the auditors have the information in a timely and effective manner

  • Renew the school's contract and policy as the entry point for the insurance company
  • Secure, maintain, and update certificates of insurance for all vendors
  • Ensure the school’s relationship with families, as well as with third parties such as vendors, banks, insurance, landlords, contractors, external accountant, auditors is responsive and professional
  • Work closely with the HR & administrative specialist and the admissions director
  • Participate in the Financial Assistance Committee and provide appropriate financial information to support the award decision-making process

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • CPA Licensed accounting professional
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience:
    • in financial reporting and in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and monitoring of actuals
    • of practical accounting, bookkeeping, and payroll in a similar role

  • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate financial data at all levels of an organization
  • Solid knowledge of accounting standards
  • Confident in using Information Management Systems: 
    • able to learn new software and processes quickly

  • Previous experience of working within school Finance and a good understanding of the independent school sector
  • Previous experience with Quickbooks, Freshbooks
  • French language knowledge is a plus

  • $60,000 - $80,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

 We are currently recruiting a  Human Resources (HR) & Administrative Specialist to oversee and manage all Human Resources functions at our school.

POSITION SUMMARY

The HR & Administrative Specialist's responsibilities will include developing and implementing company HR policies, maintaining updated employee records, administering compensation and benefits packages, and implementing training and development plans. the HR & Administration Specialist will also be responsible for some administrative duties and work closely with the accounting & payroll manager, acting as the entry point for ADP, our health insurance broker, and our external legal team as needed. The HR & Administration Specialist is expected to foster a positive and healthy workplace by ensuring HR procedures run smoothly at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

HR Policies

  • Develop and implement HR policies throughout the organization.
  • Participate in the day-to-day administration, communication, and implementation of HR policies and programs.
  • Suggest new procedures and policies to continually improve the efficiency of the HR services and to improve the employee experience.

We are currently seeking a full-time American teacher for our Nursery (3-year-old program) for the 2023-24 school year.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with a French co-teacher, the American Nursery teacher will:

  • Organize, plan, and execute developmentally appropriate educational activities for 3-year-old students.
  • Support students in acquiring individual skills and language while teaching students to participate actively in a group environment.
  • Plan and prepare a nurturing, supportive, engaging, safe classroom community.
  • Develop and maintain a strong home-school partnership by engaging in open and collaborative communication with parents and community groups, encouraging family involvement in their child’s learning, and supporting the child’s family relationships.
