Welcome to The École website! Whether you are just learning about our school, are one of our currently enrolled families, or are part of our growing alumni community, I hope you’ll find information here that gives you a very good sense of what makes The École such a special place.

When we opened the doors to The École in 2008, our goal was to create a bilingual school that would be different than any other in Manhattan, a true first of its kind, one that would reflect a society where the diversity of languages and cultures is omnipresent—the kind of global society our children will increasingly need to be able to navigate through and succeed in.

I am immensely proud of what we have built since then. Our vibrant, international community of staff, teachers, parents, and most importantly, of our children, who are our brightest lights. The illuminating academic journeys that our children experience, from Maternelle all the way through Middle School, guided, of course, by our amazing teachers. And the warm, open—and fun—culture that we share, and that will help our children grow to be not just great students, but good people.

As we look toward the future, I am equally proud of what is in store for The École. We have exciting plans for our growth. Every year we expand the ways in which we deliver on our unique approach to bilingual education. And every year we broaden our community, bringing in more students and families from around our neighborhood or from the far corners of the world, but who all value the idea of bilingual learning.

I hope that after spending some time on this website, you will take the opportunity to come and visit us in person, to see all the latest developments at The École for yourself.

Merci,

About Monsieur Rivaud
Originally from Limoges, France, where he obtained a Masters Degree in English Literature and Civilization, Yves Rivaud arrived in the United States in 1987 to teach French to elementary students at Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley, located just outside of San Francisco.

Prior to founding The École, his positions included Head of the School at the French-American School of Puget Sound in Seattle (Washington State) and Lyceum Kennedy in New York as well as Director of the French Curriculum and After School Program at the French-American International School in San Francisco (California).

His years of experience in international education help Yves support teachers, students, and parents. Always seeking to unlock the true potential of each individual, Yves’ human approach offers confidence and comfort. A mentor to his faculty and staff, he embraces new learning and teaching methods while reinforcing the academic standards specific to each curriculum.

In September 2008, in recognition of his service to French Education in French-American schools over the past 21 years, Yves was honored with the Chevalier de L’Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Ministry of Education.
