Nursery*
Must be three years old by

December 31, 2019

* All children entering the Nursery class must be potty trained before the first day of school. Pull-ups are not permitted during school hours.

Required documents

When applying online the following documents must be available for upload:

  • A copy of your child’s birth certificate
  • A copy of your child’s passport
  • A picture of your child
  • A recommendation letter written by your child’s current teacher
  • Report cards for the past 2 academic years—when available

Specific grades may have additional requirements.

Initial application cutoff for preschool — nursery, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten*

January 15, 2019
Parents are contacted to schedule the Discovery Day for the applicant(s)

January 22, 2019
Discovery Day for potential new students

February 8, 2019
Kindergarten decision letters are mailed or emailed to parents

February 15, 2019
Kindergarten parents must respond to The École by this date

February 28, 2019
Nursery and pre-k decision letters are emailed to parents

March 8, 2019
Nursery and pre-k parents must respond to The École no later than this date

*Parents may submit applications after December 15, 2018. These applications will be reviewed as they are received but may be placed on a waiting list.

Language requirements

1st and 2nd grade
Must speak French, English, or both

3rd through 8th grade
Must speak both French and English

Discovery Days
at The École

While Open Houses are your opportunity to get to know our school, Discovery Days are our opportunity to get to know your student. Through group and individual activities, as appropriate to their age, we’ll find out how well they’ll fit into our program and what supplemental or advanced language resources they might require to make the most of their bilingual experience.

Maternelle

French and American Maternelle teachers observe prospective students engaged in group activities.

Nursery
Duration: 45 to 60 minutes

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
Duration: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Elementary & Middle School

French and American Elementary and Middle School teachers administer an entry test to prospective students.

1st grade
Duration: 2 hours

2nd through 8th grade
Duration: Up to 3 hours

Students applying to grades 1 through 8 may be required to spend up to two (2) full days (one during French day and the other on an English day), from 8:20 am-3:25 pm.
