Poets Susan Karowaska and Hermine Meinhard completed a four-week poets-in-residence at EINY for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades.
They brought in work by a wide selection of poets-including Wallace Stevens, Alejandra Pizarnik, Wislawa Szymborska, Celia Woloch, and William Carlos Williams. Each session started with reading the poems aloud, followed by a lively discussion of their methods and magic.
Afterward, the students wrote their own wonderful poems inspired by the work read. Every time a new poem was read, students got new ideas regarding how to create a poem. We celebrated our published poems with parents at the Poetry Cafe.
