EINY’s first Fête de la francophonie celebration kicked off March 27th with a performance by 1st and 2nd grade students of “If the Eiffel Tower had wings,” a song written by 1st grade students and performed under the direction of Julien Budrino, who accompanied the performance on guitar. The day’s celebrations continued with explorations by elementary and middle school students into nine francophone countries and regions: Ivory Coast, Belgium, Haiti, Morocco, Monaco, Louisiana, Senegal, Shanghai (former French concession), and Tahiti. Students discovered topics relating to the history, art, architecture, culture, fashion, living conditions, and sports of these regions, as well as to their cuisine, of course, including tastings of regional specialities! Students and teachers also dressed in blue, white, and red and performed for representatives of the Centre de la Presse Francophone of New York, who filmed the event for a TV program. Vive la francophonie!
