#ILoveTheÉcole

We have really enjoyed our seven years at The École, and I could probably find hundreds of reasons why. Going from the kindness of the staff to the quality of the education, from a very active and involved community to a group of parents that now feels like family. The main two reasons would be:
1) A true bilingual education – with 50% English and 50% French: bilingual education programs have had a huge impact so far on our boys’ cultural and social growth. Exploring multiple languages in the classroom helped our three children to become more adaptable and more aware of the world around them. They are more prepared to arrive in a global world.
2) A caring community: The Ecole has adopted a caring community theory to guide its students, parents and staff around an amazing project: our children’s education. After seven years, being far from France, we have found in the school community a new family and forever friends.

A family of varying backgrounds

For a full decade, The École was a second home to our family. Each of our three children – as different as they are, was nurtured, challenged, given opportunities to lead, listen, flourish, and begin to discover who they might be in the future. They found their unique passions and motivations to develop individual strengths, confidences, and voices. We are more than proud of who they have become through the guidance of The École.

Given that we are a family of varying backgrounds, we continuously reinforce the ideas of patience, perspective, inclusion, responsibility, and communication. The decision to start our children’s’ education in a bilingual French school was not only to give them the gains of language and culture, but further to honor the richness of diversity by which we are surrounded. Immediately welcomed into the school, we quickly realized the warmth of community and breadth of care for every student. With its intimate setting, teachers are able to identify and adapt classrooms to independent accelerations and needs while still maintaining a robust and unified curriculum. Faculty and staff are enthusiastically collaborative and receptive to ideas to enhance the student experience. They radiate with dedication to ensure each child’s education ushers them to uncover a love of learning.

The bilingual program at The École has been unmatched in giving our children the best of two curricula. Immersively examining subjects through two lenses has in particular strengthened their critical thinking abilities. Ten years in an international community have allowed our children to embrace and learn from peers and families of different backgrounds, home structures, and histories. Sharing friendships with classmates that might speak languages at differing levels has encouraged them to develop an ability to listen, to understand multiple aspects, and to take various initiatives and roles.

The École has not only prepared our children to be global citizens, but also to face their greatest challenges with courage and determination. Today our children count themselves as explorers, artists, athletes, scientists, musicians, writers, and thriving academic students. We cannot wait to see what else the future holds. The journey has been remarkable, and The École has truly been a beacon for our family. Our time there has been unparalleled – it will forever be the place that inspired our children to reach for the stars.

Une famille internationale

Nous avons choisi The École à New York parce que c’est une école bilingue—une vraie école bilingue—qui propose un cursus en français et en anglais, qui permet à l’élève de s’orienter ensuite vers une école française ou d’intégrer une école américaine.

Non-French speaking family

If I had to use one word to describe what The École is, the word that springs to mind is bicultural. It’s one thing to be a bilingual school; I feel that The École went deeper, and I feel a bicultural experience from it.

Nous avons passé 5 ans à New York

This is our 4th year at The École

This is our 4th year at The École and we are very happy with the school and its pedagogy. In the complex world that we live in today, it was important to us that our children receive a challenging, globally-informed, well-rounded education and that is what The École is providing. By using language as a gateway to understanding different cultures, it opens them up to a whole world of future possibilities and opportunities. The children are thriving, well-adjusted, engaged, and everyday we are heartened by how they are growing up into wonderful human beings. It’s a testament to the exceptional teaching staff and the leadership of the school.

Our Family fell in love with The École

I think our family fell in love with The École when my daughter’s pre-K class went on a trip to the pumpkin patch. They not only had a beautiful nature-filled trip; they carved up the pumpkins and used the seeds to count as math, drew sketches of the inside as science, and made a pie. This really integrated, holistic, creative approach to learning—in French and English—is one of our favorite things about The École!

No French family roots

It is hackneyed to say of bilingual schools that they offer ‘the best of two cultures — but at The École, this was truly the case. Until joining the school at the ages of 8 and 7, my daughters had been schooled only in France, although neither parent is French (one of us is American and the other Israeli). We wanted to retain the continuity of their French education but also gain the more creative and open curricular features of the American system. The École really delivered both—in a truly international context. We were one of several families that had no French family roots, but who were connected to one another through the Franco-American education that the school so admirably provides to its children.
